Dombrovskaya A.V. The genus Stereocaulon on the territory of the former USSR. Editor-in-chief R.N. Shlyakov, Doctor of biological sciences. St-Petersburg. "Mir i semya-95", 1996.

The monograph is devoted to the genus Stereocaulon - one of the most difficult for study lichen genera. The monograph consists of general and systematic parts and a conclusion. In the general part the problems of morphology, systematics and evolution of the genus are briefly discussed. The systematic part consists of the description of 2 subgenera, 5 sections, 3 subsections, 3 series and 55 species. 44 of them are found and 11 might presumably be found on the territory of the former USSR. Of these 55 species 31 are reported from both Europe and Asia, 4 only from Europe and 27 from Asia only. 24 of the latter being encountered only in the Far East. The descriptions of all supraspecific groups are accompanied by the keys for the identification of subordinate taxa. The following information is given for every species: a detailed description, drawings, brief data on the apotecia anatomy and chemistry, ecology, geography for the territory of the former USSR and distribution in the world. The comparisons with related and outwardly similar species are included. In the end of the monograph keys are presented, constructed according to the major characters for the definition of concrete specimens. In the conclusion, on the basis of the material of the monograph, a concept of species in Stereocaulon and an overview of modern formation of forms in Stereocaulon subgenus are given. Bibliography includes 59 references. 81 drawings. The publication was morally and financially supported by K.L. Verma. The language of the book is Russian.
